Recently, I was participating in link exchanges and I got a email from someone claiming to have a two high Page Rank sites, one having a PR of 5 and the other with a PR of 4. They stated that they would give me a link back from the home page which would be even better.

Well, I’m not the most gullible person and something seemed fishy, so I decided to do some investigation. I went to my SEO Firefox browser and it did show that both of these sites had a high PR as they claimed. Then I went and checked out how old the domain was. Guess what……

The domains were only about a few days to a few weeks old!!!! No website can rank that high in such a short period of time. So websites can fake their PageRank. Its what people call a Fake PageRank scam!

What they then do is ask you to link to a different website which they actually care about and have the other site they don’t care about link to your site. The soul purpose of the one that they don’t care about was to act like they are giving you a great exchange when your really getting nothing back.  Basically, its a three way link exchange except they are lying about giving you a quality link.  By the way, there is nothing wrong with three way link exchanges as long as they are telling the truth about the PR authority of the reciprocal backlink on a site.

So watch out who’s looking for a link and if they’re going out of the way emailing people and it sounds to good to be true, then I’d look into it further.

I hope this information was of help and I’ll try to let everyone else know about weird spammy (a.k.a Blackhat) stuff when I see it.  The SEO world out there is crazy.
