If you use the Firefox browser and occasionally experience issues with the page blinking while the Adobe flash plugin on that page crashes when using viewing videos, then try this suggestion.

I had this problem for quite some time on my Windows 7 computer and this suggestion finally fixed it. Originally, I thought it was a virus and it still might be, so be sure to look into that first.

If you are experiencing this, try disabling protected mode in Flash. This is done by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash “mms.cfg” file. I followed the instructions here (which has some other suggestions also) to locate the file and the locations are as follows:

  • (Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
  • (Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

Simply open up the mms.cfg file in that folder and add the line ProtectedMode=0. Be sure to save it. Let me know if that fixes your issue in the comments below.

The Protected Mode is supposed to prevent malicious software from exploiting vulnerabilities on your computer, so make sure that a virus or malicious software isn’t on your computer first.
